Recording mileage
HMRC-accurate mileage tracking with automatic rate calculation.
Log a journey from Mileage → New journey. Pick your vehicle type and LedgeIt calculates the claim using the current HMRC Approved Mileage Allowance Payment (AMAP) rates.
HMRC rates (2025/26)
- Car or van — 45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year, 25p per mile after that.
- Motorcycle — 24p per mile (no threshold).
- Bicycle — 20p per mile (no threshold).
LedgeIt tracks your running total for the tax year and drops your car/van rate to 25p automatically once you pass 10,000 miles.
Fields
- Date, from, to, reason (client meeting, site visit, supplier collection).
- Miles — enter manually, or paste the distance from Google Maps.
- Vehicle — car/van, motorcycle or bicycle.
What HMRC expects
You must keep contemporaneous records of business journeys. LedgeIt's timestamped entries satisfy that — do not backfill months of mileage in one sitting. Commuting to a permanent workplace is not claimable.
Passenger payments
If a colleague travels with you on a business journey, HMRC allows an extra 5p per mile per passenger. Add this as a separate expense with the category Travel — passenger payments.
